advice on Big Green Egg....

I've owned an egg in the past and in 2014 I bought a Kamado Joe classic, which is the same size as the large egg. It is the same basic principle as the egg but with slight differences. They are headquartered in Duluth, have lifetime warranty on all ceramic part/pieces, can be bought cheaper than the egg and most importantly come ready to cook. What I mean is that they have developed a cooking system they call divide and conquer. It is a two half moon system that allows you to cook direct, indirect, raised and lowered or any different configuration all at the same time. Again, it all comes with your purchase whereas with the egg you have to buy items separately. The divide and conquer comes with the heat deflectors and grilling racks whereas the egg you have to buy the heat deflector (plate setter) separately. The other major difference in the two is the ceramic thickeness, the KJ is marginally thicker which lends to heat holding properties.
I would suggest you check them out before you decide which one to buy. If you have a Costco nearby, check on the kamado Joe website as they do roadshows at Costco from time to time and that's when outstanding deals can be had.
Good luck with your decision.

I bought myself this smoker last summer and I cook on it all the time. Best food you'll ever put in your mouth!! I don't do any catering with it, just cook for friends and family. Best $2500 I ever spent!!! Comes with a lifetime warranty on all parts! The guy that sells them says if you are ever unhappy with it he will buy it back!!!

We bought our BGE used, and we've never had an issue. If I could offer some advise, I would not buy a "nest", I'd take that money and invest in a table. It's more money, but a much better set up. I found a guy on Craigslist that custom built BGE tables for MUCH LESS than BGE charges for similar tables, and it's been awesome.

It's fun to experiment with different foods/cooking techniques with the BGE. It's a lot of money, but we've never regretted it.

Thanks for all the input guys. It's greatly appreciated. Especially the other possible options to consider. I thought people were passionate about their firearms but it seems many take their grilling and smoking just as serious! I need to consider getting me one as well.....

Dude screw your brother, what about me....... Hook a hustler up.... I am thinking next year at the Christmas party BGE for all attendees...

I've owned both. Green Egg all the way!
You can't give me any legitimate reason why the egg is better other than they have been around longer. The egg doesn't even have stainless hardware. The grates are ceramic coated steel. The nest sucks. Neither company claims to cook better! So I will take the grill that comes with everything you need. And has 304 stainless grates and hardware. Also has a more versatile cooking system. Has an ash drawer so I don't have to sweep or vacuum my ashes out. You can't give any legitimate reason why the egg is better other than you obviously just like to have a more recognized name brand. Ceramic Cooking is the way to go period! dropped the mic..

So buy whatever you want friend. I'm not getting in a pissing contest over a dam smoker. If your trying to save a few dollars go with the cheaper version of the egg.
