Aggressive Dog on Property

Agreed.

Many people will cap your ass for killing their dog.... Do not underestimate how passionate people get about their pets.

Honestly, don't put me on that jury. People don't get to kill a dog unless it is a clear and unavoidable threat
If the dog is back in my yard....growling at my children....and I have warned the neighbor...it gets shot!!!! end of story......I don't care who owners the dog...I will protect my children from harm.....forget animal control...they will arrive after the event, if at all

Dogs growl, that’s how they communicate, often in greeting and sometimes as warning. Make an effort to show the dab you mean it or his no harm.

I had almost the exact situation when my kids were 6 & 8 with three pit terriers (pit bulls). Adult male & female and a 6 month puppy. Puppy was no problem but the male & female adult would charge me in my yard. I didn’t back down, so they stay about 5-6 feet away from me barking growling. My kids on the otherhand would have ran. And you know they would have attacked.

Called animal control here in cherokee county, and they would only come by if I had the animals detained!!! What a waste of a department!!!
WOW, that's just sad. I know you protected your kids

If the owner is unwilling to comply get the police involved. They will get the message across to her. Isn't there a leash law in Cobb County. If the woman is being lazy and just letting the dog out to run about then that's unacceptable. I am pretty sure that you will still be ticked for discharging a firearm in city limits. possibly confiscation of the weapon. I would read up on the laws. If you've made no effort to get the authorities involved and just outright shot it because it's in your yard. I am not 100% sure about ticket but like I said do some reading up on the laws in Cobb County.

I will be honest I love dogs but I have no patience for intentionally mean dogs that owners are careless with but there are bleeding heart animal activist that could make a big deal out of. At least call an officer and see what your options are. Animal cruelty carries a stiff penalty. So do some homework before you shoot by all means. Just for your own good. Because if you don't call the police it's your word against hers.

My neighbor down the street had a dog "Prince" that had previously attacked and mauled two other dogs on the street as he'd easily jump the fenced in back yard. It was super aggressive to people and other dogs and I spoke to his owner and asked about Prince's disposition. He stated, "I wouldn't trust him."

Oooookie dokie then.

I told him I wouldn't want to hurt his dog but if it was a choice between mine and his? And his in my yard or attacking my dog on her leash? His was going to be put down as quickly and humanely as I could, that's all I can promise.

He did a better job of keeping his dog restrained. At least until he nearly killed the little Scottie on the corner, then animal control came and took Prince and the other dog he kept and destroyed them. Shame about the female dog though, she never jumped the fence or acted aggressive.

I'd hate like hell to hurt someone's pet but damn it, control your animal.
That's totally it. Take responsibility and take care of your business. Life doesn't have to be complicated

You can't reason with dindu nuthin dog owners. They will make every excuse in the book to blame you for not reacting "in the proper manner" with their dog that they could not control...

Or how about make an effort to keep your dog under control and on your property, and there won't be a problem in the first place.

Its obvious to me that just as many people on here are scared of dogs as police…
Have a heart and try alternate options instead of just killing an animal. That may be the end result, and it may be quick. But a decent person will at least make an effort.

And it's obvious to me that some of you have no idea of the amount of stray and/or uncontrolled dogs some of us have to deal with.
