Guy brandished his gun at Me and my dog today.

The first sentence was funny. The second sentence flew right over my head. Please expand!
It's a reference to a well-known television ad campaign, "....I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holliday Inn Express last night", (implying some peripheral degree of intelligence or aptitude.)

I'm not a lawyer...But I think you should burn his house down. Also I did NOT stay at a holiday inn last night.
As a small town pizza lawyer

What state do you live in? Did he have trespassing signs on his property? Why were you trespassing on his lawn? Pit bull you said, perhaps he felt threatened. Playing Devils advocate here.

I'd stop by one day without the dog and have a chat, and try my best to see what the problem was. If hat doesn't work then start shooting......lol....good luck.
Florida. Neighbourhood. No signs. Im walking my dog on sidewalk and the dog walked on his yard, about 2 feet off sidewalk. My dog is nicer than Golden Retrievers. The problem lies with him.

I am going to go out on a limb and say if it is a Florida retirement-ish neighborhood, then this neighbor must be a scumbag NY transplant? If so, NYers are extremely territorial and assholish fresh out of the 'hood.

Assuming the events described by the OP are complete and accurate ( not saying they arent, but none of US know for sure), then i think the OP over-reacted, and could've easily and unnecessarily escalated the situation, ( by saying F.U., spitting in the guy's direction, etc.)
Sure, the homeowner ( as described) was obviously unhinged, dangerous, and guilty of a couple felonies, but in that situation, whether or not either of us were armed, I would've just said something like,"Sorry, man, no offense intended", and started mosying along, rather than digging in and adding fuel to the fire, and perpetuating the whole bitch-fest. ( the OP seemed more than ready to go from zero-to-suburban-gun-battle, when he could've just held his tongue and walked away.)
As alluded to earlier, no matter the provocation, I desperately would try to avoid any live-fire incidents, and the ensuing legal grief.

Coulda been worse, my across-the-street neighbor at one of our old locations shot and killed another neighbor's dog that was crapping in his yard.
Problem was, dead dog neighbor thought I had done it, came up on my porch threatening me.
Probably for the best, if he'd gone to the correct house, he might have joined the dog.

All good points. After he came out threatening me what i really wanted to do was throw an elbow in his face. But he didnt come close enough. I was attacked in June inside a CVS. My hand still hurts. And the cops asked me if i wanted to press charges. I become furious when threatened. Some folks need a lesson. Calling the cops wasnt my first choice. Shooting him was my third choice. Guy who charges out of his house witn a gun when a dog walks across your yard needs to be stopped.
