ammo can sizes

i have been thinking about sizing down the small ammo can(7.62 mm) instead of the large ammo cans(.50 cal size) for my 45 acp ammo

my 9mm sd ammo can fit 500 rounds in a small can so that is easy to carry and a good number of rounds in case i had to move it

my 45 acp can fit 320 rounds in a small ammo can and a large can can fit 600 rounds in it but it would also be heavier and take up more space when moving it.

so i figure i can either use 1 large ammo can(can hold 560 rounds) for my 45 acp or 2 small ammo cans(the two small cans can hold 640 rounds)

i also am thinking that there will be more unused space in the large can causing more possible humidity in it. and the two small cans take up the same space as one large can

I am able to fit over 1000rnds. Of 45acp in a large ammo can when I take them out of the box.

For a SHTF you dont need the boxes....it will only take more time to load the mags rather then just opening and load.

This is the way I fell works best for me but this is just my 2 cents....

Ironically I was just looking for this info this morning:

1200rds of 5.56 will fit in to a 50cal ammo can.
600rds of 5.56 will fit in to a 30cal ammo can.
1750rds of .40SW will fit in to a 50cal ammo can.
1000rds of .40SW will fit in to a 30cal ammo can.
140rds of 12ga 2.75 will fit in to a 30cal ammo can.
250rds of 12ga 2.75 will fit in to a 50cal ammo can.
640rds of .308 will fit in to a 50cal ammo can.
320rds of .308 will fit in to a 30cal ammo can.
1300rds of .45ACP will fit in to a 50cal ammo can.
770rds of .45ACP will fit in to a 30cal ammo can.
2200rds of 9mm will fit in to a 50cal ammo can.
1200rds of 9mm will fit in to a 30cal ammo can.
300rds of 7.62x54r will fit in to a 30cal ammo can.

Thanks to "JT1989" at calguns.net, though I have not confirmed any of these numbers myself.

I can confirm the 45ACP, 12ga and 9mm amounts are correct when taken of the box...

I like the .30 cal cans personally... Small peanut butter jars fit in there perfectly and my reloads usually end up in those jars.
