Any one familiar with these new Lithium marine batteries?

I am about to pull the trigger on an electric outboard motor for my kayak (Newport NK180PRO). It uses a 24v 50ah lithium LiFePO4 battery. The one Newport sells is $660 and the charger is $180. I'm a WalMart battery kind of guy so the cost for this is a little hard to swallow. BUT, if it's worth it I dont mind spending the money. I know they last a lot longer and for years and years. I see a lot of Chinese branded stuff all over the web for hundreds of dollars less but have never heard of them before. Does anyone have one of the newer batteries they use and can recommend?

not that particular battery, but but did trade out the stock battery for a Battle Born lifepo4 100ah in our little camper. The lead acid would run the fan and fridge for 24hrs. The battle born will last 3.5 days and discharge really low -20% without damage. It was 1k new, now in the $700-800 range. Would do it all over again.
And that's a cool kayak setup.

I have been using Goldenmate for a while now on my trolling motor. So far they have been without problems. Much cheaper than a lot of the lithium batteries you see on the market.

I get what you mean about the price being steep compared to Walmart batteries. From what I’ve heard, those LiFePO4 lithium marine batteries really do last way longer and handle lots of charge cycles better than regular lead-acid ones. That can save you money in the long run even if the upfront cost is higher.


As for the cheaper Chinese brands, some folks say they work fine, but it’s kind of a gamble since you don’t always know the quality or how good their customer support is. If you want peace of mind and a battery that’s built for boating, going with the Newport or a well-known brand is probably safer.

Pretty much most are at least partly Chinese. The Battle born are assembled in the US with Chinese components. I was skeptical about the GoldenMate but I have had them for 6 months and zero problems so far. I originally bought 3 thinking of running 36V but decided I didn't have room and returning for refund was no problem.

I was skeptical also about the golf cart batteries. We took the plunge over a year ago and so far trouble free. We are at 50 cycles of 25 +\- mi per charge. Ours is a njoybot 100 ah and are rated at 5000 cycles vs flooded batteries at 500. The weight difference is also a good difference maker for kayak or golf cart.

Get it and enjoy, we have a 8 foot pond boat I been thinking of getting one for also.

i dont want to jinx myself but the battle born has outlasted the Dometic fridge .... 3 years. Still waiting on parts to fix the dometic. BO already 6 months.
