So I've got a 12hp briggs and stratton engine that came out of an old lawnmower. I took it to an old lawnmower repairman once and he said he could make the mower do 40+ mph. So, I wanted to build a small Kart for me and daughter to ride around in. I went to college for welding and metal fabrication so the frame shouldn't be a problem. Just wondered if anyone had any experience with building one. Steering, suspension, brakes, and controls would be my weak points.

I did this from an old golf cart. Also not kid friendly.

I would find an old gokart that doesn't run as a starting point, then cut it up & modify it to suit your needs. I did a sled swap from a Tomberlin Crossfire 150(baja dune 150). Swapped in a 500cc 2-stroke sled motor. Independent rear suspension, hubs & cv axels from a pontiac fireo, atv tires, a generator fuel tank and some $40 summit racing seats with 4 point harnesses.
