I’ve had the itch for a Mini 30 or an AR in 7.62x39. Does anyone have any input on the AR? Any leads on a decent one? This would just be something to play with, with a hog hunt thrown in occasionally (hopefully)

Hardened Arms makes an awesome upper. Mine has never malfunctioned, and I have tried! I love mine, just hate paying $22 per mag. That’s my only complaint.

Bolts break....alot, no matter the manufacturer, usually the locking lugs adjacent to the extractor.. Take a look at this pic and you can see why.

Just go 300 blackout and be done with it, or by a few spare bolts and be done with it.

Wet bolts, and condensation cause this issue most of the time. I’m around 2,500 rounds on mine. Still no breakage

C-Procts magazines are a must do in my experience. Also, get a longer firing pin to strike the surplus/steel cased ammo, those primers are sometimes set deeper than they should be and you need a goo hit on them. I like my 7.62x39 AR. I also have a Mini 30, various AK’s and the Sig 556R. I prefer the Sig 556R overall the most; the AR for accuracy, and the AK’s for plinking. The Mini 30 has a scout scope set up and functions as a deer rifle at times but is only fed brass case ammo.

7.62x39mm AR’s can be quirky. Usually it’s some combination of feed ramps, mags, firing pins and bolts.

I owned a 16” SIG 556R and currently own a 10” SIG 556xi Russian.......both are chambered in 7.62x39mm and use AK mags. As reliable as, but more accurate than, an AK; far easier to mount optics and lights to. More reliable than the majority of 7.63x39mm AR’s.

One of the Instructors I work with at times has a custom-built AR in 7.62x39m that runs like a champ. It was built by Citizen Arms. https://www.citizenarms.com/
