So, after days of looking around, reading reviews, and just seeing what's out there, I think I have a rough idea of what parts I'll be using to build an upper for my first AR build. These are the components that I'm thinking of using, although I'll probably wait a while to see what else I can find. I just thought I'd post'em here to see what you guys think.

Upper receiver (with forward assist and ejector port cover): Redx arms http://shop.redxarms.com/AR15-COMPLETE-A3-UPPER-RECEIVER-AR15-COMPLETE-A3-UPPER-RECEIVER.htm

Bolt Carrier Group: Spike's Tactical http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.a...+Bolt+Carrier+Group&search=bolt+carrier+group

Barrel Assembly: Rock River Arms (14.5") http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=272

I think that's everything. Although, I'll also need a charging handle and gas tube. So, am I forgetting anything, or will I be good to go?
Also, what do you think of this kind of set up? I'm just trying to find decent parts at reasonable prices. If this is a terrible collection of parts, or if I'm going about this the wrong way, let me know!

Speaking from experience, a lot of times you can pick up a complete upper for less than building it yourself, especially when you factor in the cost of the tooling to do so. Have you taken a look at the complete uppers offered by Palmeto State or JSE Surplus yet?

There are better barrels out there, although some will say most shooters will never be able to tell the difference.

Any reason for choosing a 14.5 inch? You will need to have the muzzle device pinned & welded unless you're doing an SBR or pistol build.

Good call. Completely slipped my mind

PSA is a bit out of my price range, and I've never heard of JSE. Are they any good?

I'm under the impression that Rock River welds the muzzle device to their 14.5" barrels, although I would certainly contact them to be sure. I just really wanted to go with a 14.5" barrel, I like the look.

I'm not sure RR does that but also not sure if there is that much of a noticeable difference between 14.5 & 16 inches depending on the handguard you use.

If they don't, then I'll probably just go with the 16".
