At what point can you shoot a neighbors dog?

There's a dog in the neighborhood that was always breaking out of his invisible fence. He came at my cat one morning on my front porch. The next two times he showed up, I put a couple of 22LR birdshot loads in him. Though I might have missed it, I haven't seen him since.
Dog is a fine meal.
Had a similar problem in Henry County. Animal control was very proactive in dealing with the owner. The mutt kept coming over and killing my chickens. Was told I had the right to protect myself and my animals including shooting the dog. Last time animal control cam out they asked me to sign a complaint. Next thing I know the sheriff is knocking on my door serving a subpoena ot appear in court. Animal control issued 10 violations to the owner. The judge ended up fining the guy $1.000, give up the dog and agree to never own a dog again in Henry county or serve 5 days in jail. He gave up the dog. There is a leash law in the county, take video of them running loose and show it to animal control. If that doesn't work call your local commissioner. If that doesn't work leave a few bowls of antifreeze around your property in case they get thirsty.
There a lot of ways to handle this problem but don't tell anyone how you did it, you didn't see anything or hear nothing, you were at work an had to stay late
Last week 2 big mastiff type dogs ripped a guy's leg off in Gwinnett . I would call the police every chance. Your neighbors know what the dogs do, they are just turning a blind eye. Be ready to defend yourself, but also have in mind cameras are everywhere. You don’t want to pop the dog in the back of the head with a 22 rifle and be caught on camera . Good luck.
Mean dog on my property no point In running draw and shoot i live out in the boonies so its different for me. But all the country dogs around here are all friendly and never seen a fence in their life but if one ever turns mean towards me my wife or daughters or my two dogs it isnt going to make it home that night. Same goes for my 2 dogs which are both about 110lbs each they run free too if anyone ever felt they were being threatened by them being mean a dead dog is cheaper then medical bills and a lawsuit.

I had a similar problem. Thug a street over had 2 American Bulldogs that were constantly getting out. Chasing neighbors into their homes etc. Animal control was called a few times and of course the dogs were gone by the time they showed up. One day they were in my back yard. Half of my yard is fenced (chainlink and they were outside the fence. I yelled at them to "get" and they came AT me. Biting at the fence trying to get through. Right then and there I should have permanently solved the situation. But being the "nice guy" I called animal control. They showed up and very small female officer showed up. She could NOT handle both of the dogs (not sure anyone could) and called for back up. Barney FIfe showed up and he was equally ill prepared. As he's INSIDE my fence, trying to snare the dogs OUTSIDE the fence they are growing and biting at the fence and his catch pole and him and he keeps saying "That owner won't be getting these dogs back". He's unsuccessful and the dogs eventually get bored and return home. I tell him where the guy lives and he goes over there. He issued the guy a couple of tickets and let him KEEP HIS FREAKING DOGS. The same stuff kept happening and I just knew a kid was going to get mauled or killed. Thug finally moved away and I pray those dogs haven't hurt someone. I had a pond in my backyard full of turtles. They got to eat too. I came very very close....
Having said all that.

2) Pester the ever living hell out of Animal Control and/or PoPo everytime those dogs are off their property.
To those of you say "Ahh... just go talk to them." I understand the sentiment, BUT... I view it the same way as when people say "Go talk to the trespassers. They may not know it's your property." To which I always reply "They sure as hell know it's not THEIR property."
An irresponsible pet owner, that let's their animals run loose in a neighborhood like OP's is not worth wasting your breathe on. It's like that old saying about wrestling pigs.
OP, good luck. The problem with the dogs just "disappearing" is that you can rest assured the neighbors will replace them with similar mongrels. County needs to handle it, permanently.
