They were never out of line if you weren't an idiot I managed to buy just under 5000 rounds in the last 2 weeks and didn't pay more than 35 cents a round (with tax) for any of it.

This. I did the same. Got two ammo cans with 420 count each in Walmart for $160 each. Still too expensive, but I knew it would make uninformed buyers buy up every type of ammo.
