Best Deer Caliber?

I had always used a 30-30 but plan on building an AR in .300 for next season.

I think you can pick a single caliber based on what part of the state you plan to be hunting in the most and have a great amount of success. Where I live the 30-30 is probaly the most popular caliber. Seems like the farther south you go the longer shots you take.
