Best Deer Caliber?

how hard is ammo to find or do you reload?

Dam, 1 shot?

First one was one shot...it ran about 50 yards and dropped.

Second one was not the best shot placement...took out the shoulder, had to climb down and put another .357 into his head.

Whatever you can shoot well enough to consistently put them on the ground...

I guess it's fun to shoot deer at 500yards with a 308 while aiming for the geese flying overhead

I've taken deer and hogs at close range (under 40 yards) with .357sig and 10mm handguns (UW ammo)
It's not an uncommon thing.

And of course..the best thing about 308 rifles is that they're easily fixed by re-barreling them in 243

6.5x55 swede, 7mm-08, .260,25-06,.280,243,257 Roberts,6mm Rem, something between 24 to 30 caliber, bullets from 100-150 grains, around 2800 fps. I like a 130 grain bonded 6.5 bullet @ 3000fps. Mags are not needed in Ga.

With the correct equipment it's pretty easy with a .308.

lol. True, but there is something to be learned, still. My BIL asked me what caliber deer rifle he should get just this week, and I know squat about deer rifles so some of this is good info.

Sounds like plenty of calibers will put one down, so his biggest concern after that is cost and availability. I think he's leaning toward 30-06.
