My votes are for the Lab or Golden retriever. Border collie suggestion is also a great dog for your needs. Austrailian shepherd is another great dog. Whatever you do, get it from the pound or rescue, etc. There are way too many dogs that need homes, rather than paying some breeder to bring others into the world just so they can make $. Many of these dogs at the shelters have a maked number of days.

Go to a shelter and pick out a rescue mutt. They'll be healthier than a purebred, and they're in dire need of a good home.

Sorry, Dobermans CAN be dangerous.. ask the nosy neighbor who tried to knock on a door that was partially open. They will guard their family with their life ..but dont for a second group them with a pitbull kind of dangerous
