4-5' drops with a hard tail? Sounds like you need full suspension actually.

Too bad you don't want a 29'er. I use to ride before I got into guns and the 29'er was still kinda new to the market. Once I got one I never rode anything but. A good set of light weight wheels and tubeless tires and I could climb hills like a goat. Best of luck!

I don't like how it absorbs torque when climbing and don't have enough cash for a bike with good rear suspension.
Just saying that a hard tail might not be the best tool for the job. I know they make lockable suspensions now for mountain bikes. Might want to save up more so you can get something that is built for what you're looking to do.
