Bought a Vortex scope today

I loved the M-223 and the M-308. The 308 model came in at 599 with the mount and that scope was phenomenal for the money. The M-223 was great as well. I hate the went belly up.

Well I got nailed to the cross upside down for buying a Vortex on sale but they do have a decent track record. I will probably go with the Vortex Viper HS for my 6.5 Creedmoor unless I get specific info about another option with similar features. cmshoot cmshoot said that he had seen a lot is delamination of the front objective with Leopold Scopes in the competition circuit.

So I guess there is good and bad with them all so get one and ship it back if it fails. I have learned absolutely nothing. It's either trijicon, night Force, Schmidt and Bender or just use the open sites and don't waste your money on in scopes built in China. I guess good quality fentanyl is the only thing you can buy from China that's worth a damn! 😤
All that matters is that it works for you. I've had less expensive scopes that failed and then the lifetime warranty was no good. I have had good luck with the older Redfields and Nikon. When these scopes were no longer made, I moved to Leupold. I also have an old Tasco that has been good as well. I have a set of Steiner binoculars that has been good as well. I'd love to try German made glass sometime, just haven't found the right deal. At this stage in my life, I don't think I'd ever get my money's worth out of it

The EP-5 5-25 in on my saved list on Amazon. I was wondering if that was a good option. My life long friend ( well one of the four brothers ) is a straight up lights out shooter. He said his next scope was gonna be an Arken. I love the reticle in that scope and the price is right as well. The Viper HS, the EP-5 and the Maven is the three I had picked out but can't nail down a decision. I am so indecisive when it comes to scopes. I guess my lack of knowledge on them keeps me guessing. I was hoping to get a little feedback on one of those three.

There is also Kenton industries that make custom turrets for those scopes. Once you find out the ammo you will be shooting they will make you a custom turret. Takes all the time and mess out of figuring ballistic drop. I like that idea.
I have 2 EP5's. The 5-25 and the 7-35 Both are great and track reliably. I have shot 22lr out to 400yards with them without issue.

What is there not made in China, in the same price range, that functions are accurately and reliably? What are the improvements?
Meopta Optika 6, pst gen 2, arken ep series, bushnell elite tac, bushnell match pro ed, Ravens are getting good reviews, bushnell lrhs, Burris XTR 1,2,3. I can keep going. There are options. Lots of them. Most of these are Jap glass out of LOW.

Improvements? Better reticle. 10 mil + rev turrets, zero stops, glass and coatings, durability, illumination options, more windage and elevation, better turret design, better erector housings.

Just stop dude. You're over your head.

Too much faith is given to warranties. All the top companies have top notch warranties. Equal playing ground. Warranties are a fall back. Not gonna help you in whichever field you are in at the moment. Your hunt is over. Your competition is tanked. Your range session is a fail. The time, effort, and money put into it is lost. But hey, you got a warranty. So does everyone else.

Just order directly from Arken. They constantly have 25% off deals as well. No need to deal with Amazon there.

I find myself always going back and forth between Vortex ( mainly because of warranty ) and I had a Vortex Viper PST that had super clear glass. It was a Gen l and the illumination was weak but over all a great piece. However, these days almost 85 % percent of the scopes are made overseas and mainly china. I know very little about most scopes and I ask about several in here to see if the guru's have any experience with them. However tunnel vision has a very narrow view of anything right in front of them. Hell half the scopes from Vortex are made in China or the Philippines.

There a lot of new scopes on the market Like Arken, Maven, Hawke, Black Hound and others that get excellent reviews but no one in here knows anything about them. I am just trying to get the skinny on those scopes. Oh well I guess it's back to Back Fire you tube for scope reviews.

Someone said there were a lot of good options given in this thread but all I see is Sightron, SWFA, Vortex Viper and Leopold VX lll. A couple models were spelled out but a brand is very specific.
Black hound is trash. Hawke is mainly airsoft.

You keep moving fluidly from comparing hunting designed scopes to more competition/tactical style. Nothing wrong with either style, but if you have a set of needs that you can narrow down, people can actually narrow down the models that you should be l[king into with pros and cons.

That all I wanted to hear basically. Just decent glass that will hold zero, have illumination and exposed turrets. That's all I need for no more than I shoot. I go to the range maybe 2 or 4 times every six months. It's a long haul to a good place and ammo cost is stupid.
Why exposed turrets?
If you are using them at the range ( tracking ) then, you’re going to need to spend the bigger bucks.
