Careful who you meet

Highest in the world if that number is to be believed. 101 homicides in a county with a population of only 15,500 persons?

That's 651 homicides per 100,000 residents (the most common expression of "rates").

Macon has only about 26.6 homicides per 100,000 residents.

Chicago has about 6.8 homicides per 100,000 residents.
Oops. Jefferson County Alabama. Population 658,000.

Their homicide rate is only 15.3 per 100,000 population. Still safer than Macon.
