Carrying in your own home. Another reason why I do

agree w/u here. but i have 14 dogs. nobody is walking into my home w/o me knowing and if it's a stranger, with dna being shed

14? Wow, I have 4 and I'm nuts. And two of my dogs would need to be shot - twice - before a stranger comes into my house.

Simply because of what you said in your opening statement, a VERY BROAD, POINTED, SHARP, ALOOF, STATEMENT, very much like the liberal anti-gunners, who base EVERYTHING IN EMOTIONALSIM. And hence their argument that emotions drive the need for "fearful folks" to own guns, & therefore guns are dangerous, & all that kind of mess. HERE IS YOURS: : "I always have a gun nearby and magazines strategically placed throughout my home and vehicles. I don't have a gun on my hip in my home. That's not living, that's living in fear. I'll take reasonable measures for my safety, but I'm not going to live my life based on fear of a rarity occurring. But do whatever makes YOU comfortable." -------------- And from that point I proceeded that fear or emotion has nothing to do with it. And my life isn't based upon FEAR. Then you come on that everything in the human existence is emotion based. Emotion, especially fear, is naught but a feeling, subjective, fleeting & temporary for most of the time, unless it's something like solid love. Have I ever been scared, why heck yes! Believe you me, I KNOW FEAR! I cannot sit here & think up fear; it has to be generated by some external factor. Could tell you shark attack stories & stories of being surrounded by some VERY, VERY BAD FOLKS & WITH U.S, Navy fighter jets overhead.--- But my stories pale in comparison to what our down & dirty combat vets have seen. And I defer to them, with the utmost of respect. Have you ever heard of left brain & right brained folks. I'm about as left brained as it gets when making day-to-day decisions. Down right boring & technical minded , I AM THAT! All folks have emotions, BUT THEY ARE NOT THE DRIVING FACTOR. As you learn, get older & even, yes as young folks train to do hard jobs the emotional factor has nothing to do with completing a task. Right brained folks ,on the other hand are VERY EMOTINALLY BASED , & typically are good artists, musicians, poets & stuff like that. Frequently they lack mechanical skills, relating to engineering, mechanics, electrical engineering & electronics. NOT ALWAYS BUT GENERALLY! I readily admit I have no musical skills or cannot draw a picture, but do have enormous logical skills, based entirely outside the realm of emotion. I never admitted my carrying of guns was based upon some fear factor of what happened., IN MY STORY I RELATED. If you'll re-read what I typed, you'll see that I ALREADY HAD MY GUN, BEFORE I EVEN SUSPECTED WHAT WAS GOING ON. And now, due to the degenerate society, I do , what lot's of folks do ( some maybe out of fear) but I simply equate thinking & knowing to what must be done. Kinda like seeing a tire going down & going ahead & fixing it before it goes completely flat. Guns have been a hobby to me ever since my grandpa taught me to shoot a .22 pistol at about age 6 or 7 years. And as far as "arguing" I'm trying to make a point that, unlike liberal philosophy, a vast number of us have learned that logic , rational , cold , and yes emotionless thinking must be the precursor to making good decisions , NO MATTER WHAT OUR EMOTIONS TELL US. And As I said my emotions dictate a WISH, AN EMOTIONAL DESIRE, as my old Admiral peep & I discuss, that we didn't have to carry guns, have wars or people hurt people. THAT MY FRIEND IS VERY MUCH EMOTIONAL! HOWEVER THE COLD LOGICAL RESPONSE IS SOMETHING ENTIRELY DIFFERENT! And let me add, that perhaps wrongly, I presumed you are very young, perhaps as young as my granddaughter, & that in my older age I could pass along some wisdom & knowledge, because the more of that we actually know , share, learn & appreciate, the better off we will be. It's been a hoot!

Fair enough. I respect your opinion. Bottom line is that if I decide to keep a holstered firearm on my side 24/7 in my home, it will be out of fear of something happening like in that video a few posts up. I don't know how else to convey that point to you. I understand your point about how liberals use the fear argument about gun ownership in general, and perhaps my comment was a bit sharp (I like to stir the pot around here), but I thought we were conversing amongst ourselves here, and I already admitted to having a firearm within reach and magazines stashed throughout my home so I think hardcore liberals would've bucketed us both into the paranoia camp by now. Anyhow, thanks for the banter. Slow day. :)

Mikey, dang, why so sensitive? My two little cents don't matter that much. It's just my point of view, and I have nothing against anyone who is well stocked with firearms. We all want/need more munitions.

Since you asked... I made that comment because some here are passing heavy judgment on those that differ from them. All anyone here wants is to feel they can effectively defend themselves. For some, this means having a gun strapped to their hip. All the while, they may deem having your weapons strategically placed on a 4'x4' grid throughout your house is being paranoid. The guy with all the guns then thinks that wearing one is paranoid. I tend to be more toward the "wearing a gun" side and see the array of stashed weapons as more paranoid... for me. But again, this is just my point of view, and that changes with where I am and what I'm doing. This is like the OC/CC debate. We get so offended if everyone's tactics don't line up with ours, but at the end of the day it's all about how we can most effectively take care of our families. Oh, and their opinion of what is comfortable vs. paranoid should matter a lot more to you than mine.

You MISUNDERSTAND...BADLY...I'm NOT "Sensitive"--I don't get many RASHES, even this time of year, and I wasn't referring to the "You're Paranoid--No, YOU are the one who's Paranoid" tenor of this thread...I was wondering WHY one--or the other--Method of "Being Prepared" in one's own home might be PREFERABLE over another Method, either "Tactically" or LEGALLY...That's all...Sheesh!....mikey357

Yup. If someone can still get the drop on you with an alarm and 4 dogs, that's one clever mofo.

I'd put my gun down and kill this guy with my hands. Kidding, well maybe not. Millburn NJ is an upscale town BTW. Surrounded by decidedly non-upscale towns.

I think this dude deserves to walk in on someone like you or a few big guys and get his ass handed to him. I'm not large by any stretch of the imagination but I would still put up one hell of a fight. This is one reason why I'm always rolling on the mat somewhere or putting some time in on a bag. You can't ever be too sure what the other guy knows or how big he'll be.

Simple for me... In the event of clear threat to life:
1) on my person, the weapon is at least 10 seconds closer than the nearest drawer
2) threats don't wait while I get ready and eyes on the drawer mean no eyes on thru threat
3) no matter how many safeguards I have (alarms, dogs, numerous guns around), someone who cases my place will know how to overwhelm them
4) the attacker(s) will not be impressed by my safe, established, neighborhood

I have a fire extinguisher handy, instead of on my person, because the threat demands a quick response, not an instantaneous one. I keep it close by, not out of paranoia or fear of a fire, but for use in case of a fire.

I would hate to wake up in the hospital, and wonder "If the weapon had been on my person, could I have saved that family member who didn't survive?".

Reality? Check!
