Cerakoted Gun Porn ( lets see them)

I acquired this in a trade when it was in rough shape. It was found in an attic, and laying on its side for so long, the stock was pitted and rotting, and the metal was rusted on one side, but the side that was up, looked great. I bought a new stock and butt plate and was going to reblue it myself. After seeing that some of the gun was painted, I ask a good friend to "fix" it. I'm not a fan of refinishing older guns, but this one was not in good shape at all. Some may not like it, and that is ok, I didn't know how it was going to turn out, but now that I have it back, I'm enjoying it.

Here's a couple of mine. I traded the XDS a while ago, but still have the AR, which after a few thousand rounds shows no signs of wear.

The XDS is tungsten and the AR is burnt bronze. I had some other pics, but can't find them at the moment.

I actually have some very mixed emotions about cerekote jobs...I think some look pretty freaking awesome indeed. Regardless, I consider it a huge value deduction. I guess if intent is all 100% personal use...good...go for it. But as an investment, it's akin to polishing old coins. Sure they "look" better. But every swipe of a chemical laden polishing cloth, loses value. I'd rather have a rattle can paint job on a gun if I absolutely MUST change the color. It can be restored back to factory finish with a little acetone or paint thinner and some elbow grease. So, with that in mind, I'll share my rattle can paint job. I sprayed an ODT chicken lower with a combination of gray primer and dark gray fabric paint to get as close as I could to matching an older colt A1 upper. It was still a little off so I reluctantly sprayed a very light coat on the upper to blend/perfect the match. Colt gray has a greenish tinge. I tried to add a little OD green but never could match it. Sure...I could have opted for a Colt gray cerekote job...but I didn't want either the upper or the lower to be "permanently" altered. And I don't think it would have matched anyway given the age of the upper.

Here's the before pic I took before painting it...and while I was still shopping for appropriate parts like an A1 grip, stock and 3 prong flash hider. Only thing I still want to change is the charging handle to an old triangular A1 period correct one. Hopefully one day, I'll trip into one.

And here she is painted and refurnished...

I really dig the old style AR. The triangular handguard really look good. I'm trying to put one together right now with a retro style together now.

Nice rifles! Digging the bronze on AR's. What about bolt guns? Anyone got a Cerakoted one? I recently traded into a really nice savage 10 I'm thinking about color schemes for it... Any suggestions fellas?

Definitely leaning towards graphite black as the accent color, but shying away from FDE and the desert family of colors... Maybe that brown DD is using... Or tungsten and od green? Or maybe a ACU camo pattern... So many choices!
