I've wondered the same thing....but wouldnt the arguement stand up better in a place like NYC, or Chicago where you essentially prohibited from owning/carrying a firearm?

Is there a way to challenge a law without violating it? YES.
YES
Take the city of NY to court for violating your second ammendment rights? YES

That way if you lose you dont end up in jail.

Best estimate is that would take a minimum of $150,000 to take a case to the Supreme Court.

Course, you can always do it yourself.
