Give her the benefit of the doubt. A rat snake will rattle its tail when agitated. Seriously doubted if she got close enough to see if there were actual rattles on the tail.
It did rattle it's tail and she knew it did't have rattles. When I got out there, she was actually hovering over it w/ a tiny little stick. Before I could get to it's head w/ the hoe (the gardening tool, just to be clear) she already had it's head pinned w/ a stick. She isn't scared of snakes, just needs some more work on identifying them.
