Give her the benefit of the doubt. A rat snake will rattle its tail when agitated. Seriously doubted if she got close enough to see if there were actual rattles on the tail.

It did rattle it's tail and she knew it did't have rattles. When I got out there, she was actually hovering over it w/ a tiny little stick. Before I could get to it's head w/ the hoe (the gardening tool, just to be clear) she already had it's head pinned w/ a stick. She isn't scared of snakes, just needs some more work on identifying them.

That's a good snake to have around. He will scavenge on your chicken eggs, though.

Struck at the hoe once and then I was able to catch it, very docile once caught.

Found two ratsnakes doing the nasty in my front yard once.

I had a habit of walking around the yard first thing with a cup of coffee. Walk up on two 6 foots snakes wrapped up while you are wearing your unmentionables, and the last thing you need is more caffeine.
