cutting off the hand of the thief??? consider it

What an idiot. What did she think was going to happen? Outside of the fact that many have zero morals nowdays most are also just too stupid to think past the act of wrong doing to see the obvious futility of the chance of getting away with the crime. Complete morons but at least they are easy to catch. Cutting off hands is only going to make us have to give them tax payer dollars for the handicap. Hell, we can't even execute the most horrible killers without 20 years of BS attached to it.

Lax...cutting the hand of the thief should consist of a scale... just like the minimum value amout for say Walmart to prosecute a shoplifter...this lady stole almost 10K...she would definitely have exceeded the scale

It doesnt happen often as all because its intended to be a deterrent and a reminder of what not to do.
And as far as reintegration... the system now doesn't permit reintegration any more than a missing hand would.

I'm not critiquing our current system though. Just this one.

Also if it is only done every so often as a message, will it really be a deterrent? They say the best way to reduce crime in America is not to increase punishments, but increase the likelihood of successful prosecution. Therefore, it may stand to be true that only occasional hand choppings would fail in its task, I think regularity is important.

Also is a guy who steals at gun point for $300 bucks going to lose a hand? What about a guy who embezzles $300,000? Where is the threshold and why?
