Demolition Derby is back!

My stepdad used to love the old dirt tracks (must have been his moonshinin’ roots).
We’d go to a couple of races a month back in the late ‘50’s, early 60’s. Get down in the infield and talk with the mechanics and drivers.
Back when it was fun.

I remember going to Senoia when I was a little kid. My uncle Wheeler had an old 2 door Ford coupe with a flathead 6 in it. They gutted it, built a roll cage in it and had a blast .
I think that old car is still down in the woods behind the house.

I went by there this week. Met the owner, very nice lady. She said there is a practice run on March 23rd. It's free to sit in the stands to watch. I've got my calendar marked. Cant wait

Early 90's had fun going to the dirt track in Neeses, SC.

The real entertainment was watching the rival racing families fights in the stands.

We still go to Needmore track in Ellenton, south of here so some fla guys come up regularly and several guys from around here great competition and fun. Everything’s orange when you leave!

We did one there once….ate and did giveaways at the Shoneys on 92 in acworth then off to the track. An odt member used to own that Shoneys

Anybody remember the little announcer, Jimmy Mosteller, who walked around interviewing fans before the races at Dixie and Rome? I had a book about him. He went way back in racing. Before he passed away, he was absent for a few weeks(illness), then returned to Dixie. I told him that "It ain`t the same when you ain`t here". Tears came in his eyes. He really loved what he did. His employment for years was selling Hav-a-Tampa cigars. Fine feller was Jimmy Mosteller.
