You've seen them in movies and TV, mostly westerns. A gambler has to defend himself, he extends his arm and a mechanical rig slips a derringer into his hand. When he re-tracks his arm the derringer disappears up into his sleeve. Has anyone actually seen one and if so, do you know what they are actually called? Just curious....

No, and if you are thinking of making such a thing make sure you aren't inadvertantly making an sbr. If you are thinking of such a rig as in Sherlock Holmes (the retractable derringer) that could be considered an sbr.

Wild, Wild West and Taxi Driver.

Who was the first to show this concept? Or was it something earlier?

Maverick with James Garner (The original series)

And can someone other than HGUNHNTR tell me what an sbr is? He's on my ignore list. Saw the comment he made in a re post.

lol, ignore lists are for p*****s :D

I take it someone has been made an example of by the alphabet boys??

no, but it's a valid concern.

I don't think so, really...it's a weapons delivery system, not a stock....if anything, I think it might be considered an AOW, similar to wallet derringers....but an SBR? I don't think so.

I guess it depends on the design, and how it attaches to the gun. AOW or SBR, you're SOL with the ATF.
