Double Stamped Smith and Wesson

I recently acquired a Smith and Wesson model 13-3 357 mag from another ODT member. He told me that it was double stamped. I had never seen a weapon that had been double stamped. I wonder just how common this is. Anybody else have a S&W pistol that is double stamped?

What date is the gun from ? the 2 over 3 might be from right in the change time frame. From looking around it happens , These are mass produced guns. I have never met a collector looking for error Smiths. I am sure there may be one or 2.

On a website I found that the model 13-3 started in 1982. It looks to be a 13-2 with a 3 stamped over the 2.
Model 13
-1 1974 Introduced
-2 1977 Change back to gas ring on cylinder
-3 1982 eliminate cylinder counter bore

On another website, according to my serial number it was made
Late 1974 – Early 1975.

So, I don't know when it was made, lol

Perhaps it was sent in for something and they made the changes to make it a -3!

I have no clue. From what I have read if any pistols were sent it for repair etc, they would stamp a star next to the serial number.

Maybe the frame was old inventory they decided to use up!

If nothing else, call S&W about it... **** they might send you some swag!!!
