Ed's Red homebrew

I have been using it for a few years myself. I mix and store mine in a 1 gallon gas can. I pour it into a Hoppes #9 jar for easy access and refill the jar when it starts to get low.

My only gripe is the strong odor of acetone and transmission fluid. I rinse my guns in my parts washer with minersl spirits and that gets rid of the smell of the Edd's Red.

I just leave it on guns. The ATF left behind is a lubricant. My wife does gripe about the smell. I used it on a heavily leaded revolver yesterday. It worked very well. I've shared it with friends, and they are equally impressed.

Yes it does do a good job of getting the guns clean. I like the fact that its so cheap to make that I don't have to be worried about using it sparingly. I made a gallon two years ago and I shoot and clean my guns a lot and have given some of mine away as well and I still have more than a 1/2 gallon left. I bet I could get three or four more years out of what I have left. That's outstanding for a $20.00 investment.
