I don't recall anyone in this thread pushing for more solar or wind, but, since you brought it up:
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration estimates that the Deepwater Horizon spill killed between 52% and 62% of ALL dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico. It may take 40 years for the population to recover.
Almost all of the 21 species of dolphins and whales in the northern Gulf had "demonstrable, quantifiable injuries" a decade after the spill. More than 100,000 to 200,000 sea turtles were killed or injured, and more than 4 BILLION oysters were lost.
The University of Miami found that toxic compounds still exist below the surface in 2020, toxic enough to kill 50% of the marine life that comes in contact with it.
So yes, Solar and Wind power "consumes" a lot of land; but in ONE spill pollution "consumed" a pretty large chunk of the Gulf of Mexico.
