Just finished putting together my first FAL, and felt the need to share. It's an Imbel receiver (imported by Century, wish it was legal to sand their name off) with an Imbel kit. The barrel and gas block aren't from the Imbel kit, they were on the receiver when I got it. The furniture is from an unfired Argentine kit.

I haven't set the headspace yet, as I have to get a set of gauges. I'm also concerned as I'm running mis matched sights, don't know if it's going to be pain to try and zero or not.

After I get all the stuff together and experiment some, I may sand blast it and reparkerize it, at least the lower. All and all I'm pretty happy with the project so far. Been a great way to spend a day off.

Nice! About how many hurs do you have into the build?

I guess around 10. I picked the kit up last night, started messing with it about 7 this morning. With the barrel and gas block already mounted it was really a matter of a complete teardown, couple of hours soaking in degreaser, detailed cleaning, and reassembly. I cut the stub off the old barrel, took about 30 min, not sure how long it will take to index a barrel, guess it depends a lot on the initial fit.

Nice build, how complicated was it to put together?

Not bad at all. two pins for the trigger/sear and hammer, selector pops right out. bolt and carrier slide in from the back. The recoil spring through the stock is a mutha till you figure it out. I launched the threaded cap and had to hunt it down a few times. There are dents in the ceiling above my workbench now from it. Nothing had to be fitted for filed except one little pin for the rear sling mount.

hehe 3 layers of electrical tape on a 7.62x51 is a perfect no-go......its over go and under field

before we start flaming....I mic'd it and compared to cartridge specs before determining if this would be adequate.
