First fireflies of the season

The wife has been in and out of the hospital since early Feb, Saw the fireflys tonight and realized that I had completely missed spring. When i was a kid we used to catch them and put them in a jar to make a little lantern. Much like doddling I don't believe that kids do that anymore.
Hope your wife is doing well. Here in the mountains, we call em lightning bugs. Always have, always will. My son is 7 and catches em like crazy and puts them in a jar, so atleast there are a few of us keeping the tradition alive.

I wish......OH you meant THOSE fireflies....

Anyone ever been up to the Smokeys to see the Synchronous Fireflies?
Synchronous fireflies (Photinus carolinus) are one of at least 19 species of fireflies that live in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. They are the only species in America whose individuals can synchronize their flashing light patterns.

We sat out and watched them last night. But they actually showed up earlier than I have ever seen them before. We moved into our new place on April 6 and they put on a show for us that first night we lived here.
