Flashed weapon today, did I handle this correctly?

I have played this through my head all day and wondered what I could do differently. It all ended well, no shots fired nobody killed.

Any comments from the ODT crew?

You did exactly what any reasonable and responsible person should have done.

Use the minimum force required to de-escalate, halt the aggressive behavior up to an including lethal force if required.

Once a thug realizes his life is being risked, nearly all will back down without a shot being fired. This is the far majority of criminal encounters and largely go unnoticed in the media (no blood, no story). It gives the impression that these encounters are infrequent and anti-rights groups play up to this and make the false claim they are rare events.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Thank you for presenting a picture perfect image of us as a whole and assisting a woman in need. It's what America needs more of.

No way do you turn your back on that guy.

Yep and scan 360 for the guy you don't see sneaking up.

I just read Protective Measures as expected most correct reply. The calling the police thing is really important. A thug reporting a citizen flashing a gun has resulted in arrest of the citizen and potential loss of carry rights. In anti-rights states where the right to open carry has been criminalized it's even more of an issue.

Let me start by saying that I CC, no one knows I have a gun and I was taught to never show or pull your weapon unless you intend on shooting it.

With that said. I was working down town Atlanta this morning. We unloaded the truck full of cabinets we had to install so I went to get my guys breakfast at the Mcdonalds on Ponce. As I was walking out there was a young lady in front of me. She got in her car and 1 of the crackheads that ask you for money when you walk in approached her as she was sitting in her car and was saying something to her not letting her close her door. She told the thug she was late for work and had to go, but he wouldn't move. I put my food in the van and walked to where they were. I asked if there was a problem. When I did the thug turned around and squared up to me and wanted to know who the f*** I was and what the f*** I wanted. I told him I didn't want any trouble that the girl looked upset. By this time she closed her door and took of. The thug continued to yell obscenities and to walk toward me as I backed up toward my van and explained everything was cool and I didn't want trouble. At this time 2 of his thug buddies that were leaning against the wall outside Mcdonalds came over. The original thug really started yelling at this point. I felt very threatened by him and his 2 buddies so I raised my shirt and put my hand on the grip of my gun and told him I really didn't want trouble. He shut up, his buddies walked away and I got in my van and drove off.

I have played this through my head all day and wondered what I could do differently. It all ended well, no shots fired nobody killed.

I wonder what the outcome would have been if one of his friends shot you and told the police, you pulled your weapon first (took it out of your holster after you're dead)... and that you 'started' it by insinuating yourself in the incident between two people having a conversation... Or how about this... they're all cops trying to attract other 'gangstas' and here you are getting shot when one of the cops yells 'GUN'.

Just trying to view it in all perspectives and what each perspective's outcome might have been...

What do you think would have happened if you pulled your cell phone and started recording the incident and do the EXACT same thing you did...also telling them the recording is being transferred to the police in real time.... you always have your weapon in case it escalates...

Just wondering.... that's not saying that's what I would do... you're alive, the woman is alive, and everything turned out well. That's the bottom line.

I think you did a great job at the situation at hand. Don't see how I myself in the same scenario would have done anything different. Just for curiosity sake, would you have gone over to the women if you were not carrying? Again just for curiosity sake.
