Capture a license plate? Okay. I don't love it, but it's a publicly issued document, in use on a public roadway. Without a warrant, use should be limited to automated searches for reported stolen vehicles, active manhunts, etc. Any other investigative access should require a warrant.
On the other hand...pictures gathered from a government operated network of cameras, of cars, pedestrians, bikes, etc., into a persistent database that can be used to track individuals without a warranty? Blatant violation of the 4th Amendment and prevailing case law.
My opinion is they should use technology to trim out anything but the license plate.

That's great. Could have been done with a privately owned camera.
Government now has exactly what it needs to know when you come and go from your home. Fine, in this current political environment, but what happens if we backslide and they start looking for potential J6 type offenders...is that a rifle we saw in your car this past week?
This is out of Riverside CA. A pretty good analysis of how it can be used to catch bad guys.
They say the data will only be kept for 30 days, and they are not keeping a profile on individuals. YET! You know it is only a matter of time before they decide they should.
