Ford Maverick Pickup

A Ridgeline isn't a real truck but it's probably exponentially more practical for most people. A Ridgeline doesn't cost half what a Tacoma costs these days. It costs more. It's a great choice for many folks though.
If you mean body-on-frame, then I'd agree, it's not a real truck. Otherwise it sure fakes it pretty well. And yup, most people don;t need a 'real' truck for anything they do. A station wagon would work as well.

I'm sure the new ones are pretty pricy (everything is) but mine is a bare-bones Sport model, They were just about to stop production and change to the new style, so they wanted the old style off the lots. Kind of the opposite of today.

What do y'all think about Ford's new Maverick compact pickup?

Clickbait not, Scottie Kilmer. He thinks Ford will go bankrupt because of the Rivian but He drove/reviewed the maverick & he liked it since he slams everything that’s not Toyota. But as demand goes up we know the quality control in Mexico goes down so I wouldn’t get one. He says the turbo should definitely be avoided. Only thing what if Ford & GM go bankrupt like everyone is predicting. As of June 1st ford sold all but 9.7 % of Rivian stock which is on a 75 % loss per share & climbing.
Dodge is making a small body on frame pickup, probably a pos though.

Why would Ford go bankrupt because of the Rivian?

Also, the turbo is an up charge on maverick. Base engine is the hybrid.

They invested $1.2b in Rivian.

Year-to-date, Rivian's stock is down approximately 75%. The stock was trading down Monday after opening at $26.47 per share.

Ford, which invested $1.2 billion in the startup, reported a $3.1 billion net loss in the first quarter that it attributed to a $5.4 billion loss on its investment.

This isn't bad.. they need to all go back to a compact option in trucks
I worked at a Mitsubishi lot in 05 and we heard about Mitsubishi bringing a new truck to market for 06. So we were thinking a smaller Mighty Max type thing. Nope just a rebadged Dakota that didn't sell worth a damn.

The 191 hp eco boost hybrid which nobody knows how to work on with its Atkinson electric motor (40mpg 191hp) is 2k more than the standard 4 cyl. (250 hp 24 mpg)
Only the Rivian execs are buying their trucks to appear as if they’re selling.
Dodge is making the body on frame 1200 to compete with the maverick, testing in the Brazil market.

Yes, they invested. And in the abstract, it might seem very meaningful, but the reality is far different.

After Rivian went public, Ford added a one-time, $8 billion gain to their books, based on Rivian stock price at that time. That gain was strictly paper, as they hadn't sold the stock. VERY conservative accounting.

They are now booking paper losses on that same investment, because Rivian stock price has declined. They've also sold about 20% of their Rivian stake, recouping about $400 million in cash from those sales. They still own 10% of Rivian, worth about $2.4 billion. Again, on paper.

So, in summary: They risked $1.2 billion on a Rivian partnership, thought better of it after a few years, have recouped $400 million of the original investment and still hold about $2.4 billion of the stock.

For perspective, Ford sales are roughly $135 billion a year, and real profits (not paper losses on instruments like Rivian) are typically about $10 billion/year. Ford is currently paying out $1.4 billion a year in stock dividends

Rivian numbers are small numbers for Ford.

The hybrid 4 cyl is the base engine; it is an Atkinson cycle motor, not a turbo.

The eco boost turbo motor is the upcharge (about $1100).
