g26 vs g19 for concealed carry

Gen 4 Glock 19 IWB with a Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe or OWB with a BlackPoint Tactical Leather Wing.

I have both and feel like the 26 is easier to conceal even with the grip extension. The grip extension only makes the front of the grip longer. The back strap is still short like a standard base plate (this is the part that would print). Think about it like this: The size difference between a Glock 19 and a 26 w/grip extension is basically the same as the size difference between a Government model 1911 and a bobtailed Commander. I don't think anyone will argue that the Commander will be easier to carry.

As for the shorter sight radius, it doesn't seem to make a difference .. to me at least. I shoot just as well with either of them.

In my experience I found that with the right carry system anywhere I could carry a 26 or 27 w/ an extended mag. floorplate, I could carry a 19 or 23 w/ much better ergos so I got rid of the 26/27's. The size difference was so minimal I just got rid of the smaller ones.

It is of course subjective to each person.

Along those lines this is something I'm going to be doing as soon as I can justify buying a 17... before someone flames me on it, I know your objections :D

G17 chopped to accept 19 mags)

by bobbing the rear of the grip like on a 1911 I think it removes several of the angles that tend to print the most, any by chopping the grip you remove the angle from the magazine sticking out. The same thing could be done with a 19 to 26

I chopped a G22 to take G23 mags... I like the longer barrel and sight radius of the G22, but the size of the grip of the G23. Fyi - the angle of the mag floor plate was different, so you have to be careful on the cut.

To answer the OP question - I prefer the midsize G19 a lot over the subcompact G26 sized guns. I find the G26 to be too heavy for pocket carry in shorts etc, so I bought a Kahr CM9 for deep concealed carry.

I appreciate this explanation as well as the one about students swapping from sub compact to compact mid class and why. I have a friend whose opinion I also value who feels the same. Like yourself he has attended and conducted countless classes and chooses the 19 everytime. I find it interesting that he will carry a 642 yet not a 26 and that others will recommend a Shield or the like yet dislike the 26. I don't carry 26 with large extensions. I use the gap floor plates, the stock plates and occasionally the +0 plate but the latter is rare. I am trying to carry my 19 more. I find myself looking at smaller guns such as P938 or the Shield. I just wonder if I would be gaining anything over the 26 or if I would benefit simply carrying my Model 60 J frame when I dont feel I can carry my 19.
