g26 vs g19 for concealed carry

Along those lines this is something I'm going to be doing as soon as I can justify buying a 17... before someone flames me on it, I know your objections :D

G17 chopped to accept 19 mags)

by bobbing the rear of the grip like on a 1911 I think it removes several of the angles that tend to print the most, any by chopping the grip you remove the angle from the magazine sticking out. The same thing could be done with a 19 to 26

I would very much like to have a chopped 17. Ihave repeatedly asked various admin. & people in sales positions that I've come in contact in Smyrna to make this gun to no avail.

Maybe one day enough people will ask or I'll just get up the nerve to send one to David Bowie up at Bowie Tactical Concepts & have him chop it.

I should have mine put together within the next three months, I need to get up there and do some shooting with you soon, good excuse

I appreciate this explanation as well as the one about students swapping from sub compact to compact mid class and why. I have a friend whose opinion I also value who feels the same. Like yourself he has attended and conducted countless classes and chooses the 19 everytime. I find it interesting that he will carry a 642 yet not a 26 and that others will recommend a Shield or the like yet dislike the 26. I don't carry 26 with large extensions. I use the gap floor plates, the stock plates and occasionally the +0 plate but the latter is rare. I am trying to carry my 19 more. I find myself looking at smaller guns such as P938 or the Shield. I just wonder if I would be gaining anything over the 26 or if I would benefit simply carrying my Model 60 J frame when I dont feel I can carry my 19.

For some reason I've known many others to prefer the J frame. I don't understand why the Shield has not taken off. It seems like it would be perfect for many people not willing to spend the time/ money on finding a "workable" system to carry a 19 or similar sized gun.

So you prefer the Shield to the 26? I guess its the chunkiness of the 26 that most find as a turn off. I would think the commonality of mags and the same basic controls would make a 26 shine. I had it explained to me that the grip of a J frame is simply easier to hold that the smaller (anything smaller than a 19) semi's.

You both did better than most people who come out. Mindset was part of it & the other was it was apparent that you had both put plenty of serious time & thought into what you were doing.

I felt you were both very close to being ready to step up to the Intermediate level where the fun begins:cool2:

I would never hack a perfect condition gun, but I had a well used G22 that I tried to sell for weeks and kept dropping the price. At $380 I said to heck with it and grabbed my saw...

I was carrying my wife's 26 some Saturday and the weight and slight difference in barrel length definitely made the 26 more comfortable to carry while I washed the vehicles. I still prefer my 19 for most "away from the house" carry.
