Gander Mountain readying for bankruptcy...

Now that I think about it I never even saw an actual Gander Mtn. store all of their business was mail order.
They had a big catalog, not as big as Sears but pretty danged big.
And Sears is gone to, their catalog sale's went first.

I wonder if they were just too slow at opening real stores?
Then as DD is saying they raised prices to pay for the stores, because nobody wanted to reach into their deep pockets. Part of me is thinking they were privately owned way back when....???

I think a lot of the retail brick and mortar stores will continue to fail due to poor service, high prices and the oblivious hiring pool they have to choose from. When I started working on hot rods in the 70's the auto parts guy didn't need a computer to know the difference between a SB Chevy and a SB Ford and could actually answer any questions I had about an engine, trans, diff. etc. Now they are just cashiers that don't know a carburetor from a clutch plate and really don't care about learning it.

Same in these retail stores that cater to "Outdoorsmen". These sales people don't have a clue about what they are selling. I won't waste my time waiting on some sales person to scroll through a computer screen when I can go on line and order what I want, when I want and actually get what need from Amazon, Brownell's, Midway USA etc. and it comes to my front door!

Hmmm, I'm ready for the close out sale.....

Seriously, I use to stop by looking for 22 on my travels. There was never anyone in any of them to speak of, yet Academy was always packed.
