Hey everybody.
I had a member PM me recently and ask about this book. It's been a few years since the first edition of it came out, and at the time there was a lot of publicity related to it, but not so much now. Georgia Carry.Org (GCO) isn't mentioning it in their e-mail blasts anymore, and we haven't been selling the book at GCO recruiting booths like we used to. Many gun dealerships and shooting ranges around Atlanta carry it, but the ones in other parts of the state don't, except Patrick's in the Savannah area. Dan and I can't travel all around the state shaking hands with gun store owners in person, although we've done a lot of marketing work around Atlanta.

So here's the lowdown on this book of ours:

-- It has all the gun laws of Georgia listed in numerical order according to the Code section number. But, these O.C.G.A. sections aren't just cut-and-paste reprints of the official Code. We use new line spacing and bold, italics, and underlining key words and phrases to make the law more understandable.

-- After each Code section is a layperson's summary in plain language, telling some of the main points of that law, giving definitions of obscure legal terms, and identifying what other laws in other Code sections must be read together with this particular code section to get a complete picture of the law on that issue. The O.C.G.A. is not cross-referenced, and unless somebody points it out to you, you may not realize that the law making it a crime for a minor to possess a handgun is NOT the same law as the law applied to the adult who supplies a handgun to a minor. Similarly, the law about guns in jails is different from the law about guns at prisons. We cross-reference them. We also use words in the layman's summary that the Code itself does not use, like "reciprocity" or "reciprocal" -- neither of which are used in that part of the O.C.G.A. law discussing that issue.

-- The book has a "where to start reading" page, listing the most important gun laws that you should read first as part of a comprehensive study of the law.

-- The book is specific to Georgia, written by longtime Georgia residents, one of whom is a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia and well exprienced in criminal law in this state.

-- The book does have a short section at the end where we discuss federal law and things like flying with a gun on commercial airlines, the Post Office, Corps of Engineers lands, Amtrack, National Parks, and related gun carry issues that are dealt with in federal law.

-- You can buy the book at dozens of retail locations around Atlanta, OR order it from Amazon.com.

Or, if I'm giving a seminar or lecture or book-signing, there may be a special deal on the books, often $20 at such a promotional event.

For example, next week Thursday night (3/30) both of us will be at the Bass Pro Shops in Lawrenceville (Discover Mills at Sugarloaf), giving a presentation from 6:30 to 8:40 p.m., and afterward we could meet some of y'all out in the parking lot and sell some books at the promotional price (Bass doesn't carry the book-- none of the "big box" sporting goods stores are interested in selling a state-specific book like this, even though they host lectures on this subject).
