It's my understanding that Tenifer, and its US alternative, are a metal-hardening treatment that does not wear off, and the finish that wears off is Parkerized.

you are right tenifer is a steel hardening process. so it not the tenifer that needs to be redone it the bluing that wears off

Agreed, but thats how they refer to it there, to reapply whatever finish it is.

Had them refinish glock 20 about 15 years ago and it came back like new. Haven't had one that needed finishing since.

Hmmm. I was just thinking of picking it up today and doing a Cerakote instead. Now that a seed of doubt has been planted...
