Off the wall thought, but since gun ranges rent guns short term, i.e. for use on their range, can they rent them for a week, or in this case, long enough to go on vacation with up into mean bear country? Wouldn't this be a good money making business renting or leasing guns long term, since many people like to trade their guns for either something different or the latest and greatest?

Among 44 magnum double action revolvers, two Spanish firms made cheap copies of the Smith & Wesson model 29.

Llama called theirs the "Super Comanche" and Astra call theirs a "model 44 Terminator" gun.

Both are six shot, all steel, large frame, double action revolvers with swing-out cylinders similar to the S&W model 29.

One of these with a 6 inch barrel wouldn't be a bad choice --if you value small size and low price over massive stopping power and high quality of manufacture.

Good opinions guys, Yea I had started to read the 10mm debate and not against that either. Unfortunately sold my Ruger .44 blackhawk years ago on here but I could UP the price some. I'll also keep an eye on pistols on here. i've never owned a Taurus but no opposed to a Taurus .44 of some sort
A friend of mine carried a 44 magnum SS Taurus when he worked in the Bush. Loaded with solid copper slugs from Buffalo Bore.
I carried 300gr JFP Freedom Arms, flat nose, hard lead ammo in my Casull , IIRC.

Shotgun is not a bad idea, especially of you can handle a 12G 14" not-SBS from Remington. Use Brenneke 1oz slugs.
Penetration is a key for bear ammo. Do not use JHP.

Pick up that $500 Blackhawk, get a comfy holster and have a good time. Any chance you have to spend time in the part of the country you are going to is special, and I wouldn't miss out on it. Make sure to share some pictures of the trip when you get back!
