Has anyone bought a new production Marlin firearm lately?

I have a hunch to get a lever action. A 1894 to be exact. Rumor on the internet is that Marlin's quality is getting better..is this true? Anyone buy anything from them recently and have any issues?

I have a 795 made in Mayfield Ky that seems AOK. Still
like my older model 60 made in New Haven mo' better.
Might just be me, a Marlin Marlin seems better than a
Remington Marlin. Kinda of like prefer USA flag made
in USA rather than made in Mexico or Chiner.

Speaking of Marlins, please pardon a small sidetrack.
Found an older model 60 for sale, has the 21" barrel
which I think makes it pre-1983. Decent shape, stock
has few marks no real damage. Same goes for receiver
& barrel. New Haven Conn USA markings. Owner wants
$130 which seems a bit strong to me. What do ODTers
think? Older vintage w/longer barrel worth that much?
Thanks.

I've got a 1895 gsbl 2016 production date that is excellent. Fit and finish are superb. The sights are on straight and the action is smooth. That being said I had a brand new 2017 336 that was junk. The exact opposite of my 1895.

I have a 2017 XT-22MR .22 magnum bolt gun, Synthetic stock. Blueing is good, typical plastic stock fitment but stronger than I expected. Very accurate. The only issue was some intermittent light primer strikes that a little polishing of the firing pin and the channel in the bolt took care of.
Concerning the model 60,
I think depending upon condition $130 is not outrageous if it’s in very good condition. I recently paid that for a early model 75 in good condition, stock has a few dings and light scratches (no deep gouges) and blueing show some wear, but good condition mechanically and it shoots very well.

This is it after cleaning, replacing the bolt buffer and the 4x15 Tasco with a UTG/Leapers 4x28 scope.

Thanks Poppa,
I think this one will clean up pretty well. Few dings and scratches
typical of a user, not a closet queen for sure. High edges on receiver
scraped to silver. In addition to New Haven and 21" barrel also had
kind of a neat serial # ending with 40040. Whole thing iirc 1040040.

Other candidate from same source is a J C Higgins model 31. About
same condition plus a busted butt plate. Decisions, decisions.

Nice looking 75, congrats on capturing it.

gle2, I have not purchased a new Marlin. I have spoken with many who have purchased them. Early on, during the changeover from Marlin to Rem, the product was not very good. I have read lately that on some of the newer models, the quality is much better but I do have to say, there are still complaints on the Marlin Owners site about the Remlins. I guess the best way to put it is say that the new Marlins are pretty much hit and miss. Before purchase, look the rifle over, check the fit and finish, check the sights and if you can, cycle a few dummy rounds through it, or better, shoot it and see how it cycles. Frankly, there are some deals out there on the JM stamped models, but that is totally up to you.

When Remington took over Marlin the rifle that they made were not good. Most had many problems. Fast forward to today and the rifles have gotten better. But I would check the rifle out like you are checking a used rifle.
