Credit where credit is due, right? Regardless of your feelings for certain manufacturing brands, I feel that we tend to **** on manufacturers quicker than we praise them when they do something right.
KEL-TEC - For some, it seems that this brand brings the food you just ate to the top of your throat. For me, I've always enjoyed these odd designed weapons. Sure polymer isn't for everyone, truth be told I actually despise it myself but I make exceptions here and there.
One sunny morning I met up with an ODT member to pick up a P17. These are hard to find and even harder to find at non-panic pricing. Long-story short, I was excited to get my hands on one and forgot to do all my normal function checks, trusting the word of the seller and member of this community. Fast forward to the range and I find out the last round hold open fails, the standard barrel nut (non-threaded) looked like it had been through hell and was equal hell to get off to put the threaded adapter on and all in all everything just felt loose. These things are known to eat any and all ammo and this was just one round, ftf, one round, ftf, etc.
With my other KEL-TEC weapons I have never had the need to reach out to their service team. This situation was different; this was a private sale and technically the warranty does not follow anyone but the original owner. I contacted them anyways, they told me to send it in and they would look it over and let me know what needs to be fixed. $13.00 in postage and off it went.
Two weeks later, my FFL receives it back. Work order shows they replaced and updated the slide, barrel, slide lock and magazine springs. They test fired before it left. There was no charge, just a thank you for giving them an opportunity to make things right and continue to enjoy my KEL-TEC firearms. To me that shows pride in the work they do. Kel-Tec did not have to complete any repairs, they could have told me it was $X to repair, instead they silently updated and replaced everything and sent it back - I didn't even have to pay for it to come back.
The thing feels like a new gun! It absolutely eats everything now and even cycles CCI quiets reliably. Couldn't be happier and just wanted to give a shout out to a company that still gives a damn about their customer base.
