Have you ever backed out of a sale after meeting with a buyer?

I've never backed out of a deal but a few times I've renegotiated on the spot.

One time, an ACOG with the deal looked pretty suspect, so I subtracted that amount and just bought the gun.

Another time I on a meet, I thought I was buying a Colt complete, turns out only the barrel was Colt. The BCG was unmarked and the upper was a square forge but wasn't T marked or M4 marked. Other indicators like mismatched parts showed to be a built upper. Renegotiated the price point after explaining what I saw and said, I don't mind walking away but if you're open to offers. I felt little bad about negotiating at the meet but it just wasn't a Colt upper.

Backed out of a deal prior to physical meet - yes. Super rare, but a couple of times the other side postponed multiple times such that I concluded it wasn't worth trying to chase any more, OR the other side attempted to change the terms of the deal. Out of several hundred deals the cancels could be counted easily on one hand so that's OK with me - stuff is gonna happen sometimes.

Backed out while at a meet - only once and that was a partial. Showed up to look at a vehicle and the condition of the vehicle wasn't quite as described. There were a couple things I had specifically asked about and been assured this or that worked fine when in reality they didn't. I went to walk away and was asked what my offer would be for the vehicle as is so I did float a lower offer reflecting what I'd have to spend to fix the items in question. The subsequent offer was accepted so I ended up not walking away after all but it was close.

I attempted to back out of a trade due to the rifle I was trading into had heavy rust in the barrel. The trader was honest and said that he never checked the barrel after the rifle was sitting for years in a safe. He was in agreement to cancel the trade, but then offered a fire sale price on the rifle since he was not going to do anything with it.

I think I still have the barrel soaking in oil!

A guy tried to buy my gun and I had only spoken to him. After he drove a couple hours he showed up by himself and then said he was buying it for his friend who chose not to come. I turned him down. I felt bad he drove all that way and explained my position. He completely understood. We shook hands and he went back home. Great guys on ODT.

I've never seen fit to back out of a buy. Usually by the time we're ready to meet we've talked or texted enough to be comfortable. I have had sellers back out of selling but that is usually early on and only once with ODT folks. Brand new member posted a G19 for a credible price. As we were talking about meeting, I got a bad feeling so I let slip I was in le. Suddenly he said he needed to take another call and would call me back. Never did and when I called...no answer. Never saw him post anything here again. All in all I have had nothing but good experiences in the ODT community.
