I think the Smith & Wesson model 38 or 638 "bodyguard" with the humpback (mostly shrouded hammer) is the best compromise. The only two problems with that are:
1-- it's orangutan-butthole ugly,
and
2-- the rounded back of the gun prevents a retaining strap from securing the weapon in your holster that way. ( but there are other types of holsters that grip the firearm in other places ).
