Heart Rate Monitors for Cardio Training

Just a funny thought that popped into my head when I read about the Heart Rate Monitor.

I was referring to see when her heart rate increases to indicate that you are in the right spot...

What's even more funny now to me is the fact that you are from Cumming!

As a general fat burn rule: .80(220-age). I keep mine in the mid 140's. for an average but do bursts to the 170's / 180's for short lengths of time in a ride. Small Anaerobic bursts are important as well but not for the sole purpose of burning fat.
If you don't have a heart rate monitor then learn to recognize when you are in the right zone. If you can speak with only small pauses for deliberate breaths you're there. If you can carry on a normal conversation, you're not. I you can't speak, too high.

It also depends on whether or not you're interested solely in burning fat . . . or getting faster.

Like Ricky Bobby . . . I wanna go fast.

Going on a ride here in a bit where I bet I only average 150 over 40miles as I'm riding with a group that goes slower than I usually do.

I use the garmin edge 200 but it doesn't have a heart rate monitor and my ride is a alluminum framed specialized allez. Love both. Not top of the line, but both work for me. I would love a full carbon filber. In time hopefully.

Polar is the Grand father of HR monitors....one issue with that is if you are ever in a large group you can get CROSS talk amongst all the other Polar monitors...this comes into play in group rides on bikes more than you might realize...

If the data you want is solely HR then any monitor with a chest strap will do...but if you really want more DATA you will really appreciate the technology that a GPS will offer....

I carry Garmin stuff at the shop and the amount of info you can glean from their website (garminconnect) when you up load your workouts is amazing and very much an asset to training...I carry the watches as well...come see me...I know a guy......

What you riding doc?

Doc Rides a Look 695 Mondrian...I know it well....I built it....and he is one fast dude....lives by the adage "If you are gonna be dumb, you better be tough" and he is one TOUGH SOB!
