Help me identify this sound - 2007 Suburban 5.3

Sounds like a flywheel rubbing. Maybe on the nose of the starter? Was there a warranty on the tranny from GM? If so I would let them figure it out or at least say it aint us.

If it is the exhaust hanger you can push or bang in various place along the exhaust and find a bad hanger. Exhaust manifold gasket, while running feeling around where it bolts, also where the pipe bolts to the manifold. If you feel puffs of air it'll be the gasket. The flex plat does sound like the only way to verify is to remove transmission. It could be cracked around where it bolts to the crank. Hope this helps. Mobile mechanic located in Dublin

I’ll give the dealership a call in the morning and see what they say. The replacement happened prior to me purchasing the vehicle but 🤞 they’ll still provide some help.

Good luck. I had a 2004. I know they made some changes between those years but it was pretty rock solid.

Being that they’re in Utah 2 hours behind they are still open.

The hunt continues. They were no help because I wasn’t the customer and it’s not public information. I was told any warranty is only good for the person and doesn’t follow the vehicle.

would the starter rubbing against the flex plate make noise in the bottom of the trans pan?

Thats the part that throws me off. It could travel I guess. I'd stick that stethescope to the starter and see how it sounds there. I had a similar sound back in the day but always with SBC 350 and starters. The LS starter mount is a lot better design so Im not sure it could really be the issue. But it does sound similar.

Video:

This occurs while it's in park and at low speed.
The sound does not come from the engine bay and I've determined that it’s most prevalent around the actual transmission.
It comes and goes but doesn’t matter whether it’s at op temp or not.
There is no noticeable issues or changes with how it shifts or drives.

My initial thought is a cracked flex plate based on what I’ve watched and read online and seems to be a common problem with these.
Could it be motor and/or transmission mounts? My thought is no because it’s not clunking and usually there’s a change when things heat up/cool down based on the harmonics of the drivetrain.

Would like to know the ODT collectives thoughts. Although I’m comfortable enough to be dangerous mechanically, anything that involves the transmission is not something I feel comfortable with. So if you know what it is, you get bonus points for cost involved in repairing it.
Does not sound like engine mounts and those are easy to check. Pop the hood and while you look in the engine compartment have someone you trust set the park brake, depress the brake pedal with left foot and shift into drive while giving it gas. If the mount is bad you'll know it quickly as the engine picks up due to torque. That's how I found mine were bad. GM asshole engineers making fluid filled mounts that crack and leak out.

This sounds and looks like your problem my friend: Bad flywheel

I saw that video a few days back. The issue is there is no inconsistent sound in that area through the stethoscope when it happens.
