So I was dead set on getting a 5.56 upper for my SBR build but now I'm debating if I should really good the 300blk route. I've already spent too much money recently so I can't do both now. Should I go 5.56 and get a AAC 556SD or go 300blk and get a 7.61 can? I know people will say get the 7.62 can regardless but if I'm not going to get the 300blk upper I'll pass on a .30 can for now due to price. Cherokee has the AAC 556SD for $450 and the Specwar is $700 so for $250 I can pay my stamp and still have $50 left over. Also .300 ammo is hella expensive. Plus side is I dont shoot much but goodness its like a buck a round and I'm probably too cheap for that. I know that its quieter than 5.56 but how much more so? I can't find any decent comparison videos but is 300 blk backyard quiet?

220 grain 300 BLK is the quitest since it is subsonic. Like you said, 300 is expensive @ $1.00 a round or more. What is this gun for - Putting holes in paper, hunting?

Just continue doing what you're doing. You don't have to get both at the same time. Hell, if anything the 300blackout will be cheaper to shoot later down the road as it cements it's stay as a commercially available round.

I'm pretty much doing the same thing. I'm waiting on another 556 sbr and a M4-2000. In a few months, I'll probably get a 300 upper and a 7.62 can to go with it.

Yea I do feel like I'm rushing to get stuff, I still have a 9mm can I'm awaiting approval for. I feel like I'm spreading myself thin on builds and suppressors. I'm gonna be eating Ramen and spaghetti with sauce NO MEAT! You sound like a voice of reasoning.

.300blk can be suppressed into the high 110 decibels. That's as quiet or quieter than .22lr supressed. 5.56 can barely be supressed to hearing safe levels. If you want "sssh," 300 BLK is the only way to go. Here's some data from one of mine off of a 30 round string. First round pop is first round pop.

on my 16" barrel, my 5.56 can is not painful at all without ear pro. Might not be quite hearing safe, but it is completely bearable. On shorter barrels, not so much!
