Is it a rebarreled WWII surplus rifle, originally a Mauser K-98 (Karabiner / carbine model, adopted by the German army in 1898)? Many such surplus guns were imported into the USA in the late 1940s through the 1950s, and often they were rebarreled to use ammo that was more popular here in the USA.
Or, are you talking about a brand-new Masuer model 98, which is a purely sporting / hunting rifle that is based on the famous WWII battle rifle?
Pictures would help, especially close-ups of all the writing / marking / engraving / stamping on it.
Both the letters & numbers that you recognize
and any weird symbols you don't.
And looks nicely done also...It’s a sporterized version of a German military rifle, the Mauser 98k. Someone took a military rifle, then modified and rebarreled it for hunting use.
