Home Defense gun suggestions

shotgun isn't a bad choice and a 18 inch barreled in either 12 or 20 gauge is good.
I know a lot of people go the 3 inch magnum and 00 or 000 buck but my feelings is 2 3/4 inch shells and number 1 or number 4 buckshot.
Less recoil, faster back on target, more pellets and more holes, i mean after all number 1 buck is as big as the projectile most are shooting out of thier handguns.
as for a handgun I would look at a mid sized framed 38 special or 357 (using 38 bullets) of a 4 inch barrel, they are about as close as fool proof as a gun gets.
of course with either choice the guns only as good as the practice put in to learn to use it, buy and put in the closet and theres no telling what problems are encountered if they do need to use it.
