home video security

Yea I close on a house in one month and want some security cameras. I really need to look into this as well. I've heard that Drop Cam's are very nice. I don't really want a monthly payment for recording though.

The best thing about camera systems vs traditional security systems is you can add cameras at your own pace. And with a dvr /nvr there is no monthly payment and your recorded footage is at your fingertips and not saved to a third party server.

We use Clinton and Honeywell alot. They are both decent DVR'S and cameras. And both capable of Web or mobile browsing. With no monthly fee other than your Internet bill.

One thing to remember with cloud based storage, if your internet ever goes down for whatever reason( bad connection, cut lines, etc) you are no longer recording.

The Uniden system has an app that allows remote viewing. You can also listen or talk over the cameras. We have AT&T so the connection is a little slow be still good. Broad-ban would probably work a little fasted. I don't have a problem with clarity and the cameras will pickup motion through a window. Setup is quick. I paid $190.00 for a system with 2 cameras and an extra camera cost $90.00.

Okay, so what would you recommend if I wanted a 4-5 camera setup? With 4-5 cameras, I would prefer to not spend $200 per camera because that gets expensive.

So I'm guessing these are wifi cameras?

Correct! I decided to go with wifi as I didn't want to go through the trouble of running wires all over the house. Took 40 minutes to setup and install 2 cameras. I added a third camera a few days later.
