Got a 05 pilot, oil cap says 0w-20, online specs say 5w-20. When I bought it, the former owners were using 5w-30. 208000 miles, just did timing set including water pump. I put 0w-20 in it but now I'm getting a low oil pressure light. Not sct just mil. I don't see the vvt so I'm wondering if 5w-30 is safe?

Is it possible that the owner put a different oil cap on the car somewhere along the way?

I’m no expert but if the engine doesn’t have the correct oil pressure with a 20 weight oil you have something mechanically wrong or a bad sensor.

We have high mileage Hondas with the same engine.

I've got an 06 odyssey and it uses 5w20 - per the owners manual and the oil cap. I've run 5w30 and 10w40in the past with no I'll effects.

My 08 Honda civic has been 05-20W from day one. 2008 engines had block cracking issue which happened to mine at 104,000K. I just turned 260,000K on the car in total. I have always changed my oil and have always run Castrol full synthetic and Wix ZP oil filter. I run it to 8K between changes. Valve lash adjustments every 60K. I have always hated the fact that 05-20 looks like water when you pour it in new when compared to the 10W-40 we used run in our old 60's and 70 vintage Chevy 350's

Make sure the oil pressure switch is actually plugged in. I’ve had to unplug and remove some of those to get the bottom tensioner bolt out. Not out of the question it was overlooked.
