How cheap can you put together a squirrel getter?

I like buying cheap, neglected guns and making them useful again. Anyone else do this? I'm sure there are some here. I saw this Marlin Model 60 in a local pawn shop and asked how much? $100 since it was missing a front sight and rear sight, so $107 out the door. I added a $5 set of rings from the junk box, a filler screw from a Ruger 10/22 receiver (free) and a Marble's slot filler $7 where the rear sight used to be. I pulled a Weaver V9-3 scope from my $10 scope box (bought for $5 at the gunshow in ATL you know, the place where you get ripped off coming in and the dealer's all charge retail +25%). Total in about $134 and it's as accurate as anything I own. What budget builds have you put together lately? The gun market is in the tank, it's a great time to fish out these sleepers.

Mine was $56 in the day and came with a scope with a tube about the size of a dime. Years later found same scope in K-Mart for $8, so you know it was quality glass. A lot of tin cans, squirrels, and a few other things didn't fair well with this combo. Still have it today with the squirrel on the stock.

Well done!

Paid 120 for mine with shoddy scope on it. Light strikes almost every time. Took it apart and cleaned it and she ran like a champ. Used it to shoot rats while bush hogging for a few years, until last year it bounced off and under my rear tire. Need to get me a new stock sometime. Model 60 is the most under-rated .22 made.
