How do you prepare watermelon?

Ooo...the watermelon martinis turned out really well...

Growing up when we got a watermelon my folks would slice it into 1/4's and let us kids have at it with a table knife. Served on newspaper so we wouldn't make a mess.

My wife's family slices it into cubes and you eat it out of a bowl with a fork. Like restaurant style.

And sometimes if they weren't very sweet we'd sprinkle salt on it to give it a little somethin'.

And God bless whoever figured out how to make seedless watermelons!

Anyway - how does your family consume one of nature's best fruits?

Chilled is better, but just slice it up and eat it using the rind to keep from getting all messy. No need to get all fancy cubing it or using utensils with a watermelon.

Anyone keep the rinds to make watermelon pickles?

We used to end up with a freezer full by October when I was growing up so my Mom could make them for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Cut it up and put it in containers in the frig. Then let it sit 2-3 days. It gets a nice sugar glaze while it's been soaking in its own juices. That's the best and it doesn't last long after that.....
